The Affordable Housing Demonstration – Case Studies: Birmingham, Alabama; Knox County, Tennessee; Lincoln, Nebraska; Sioux Falls, South Dakota

In 1982, HUD launched the Affordable Housing Demonstration at 20 sites across the country. Each site took the form of a subdivision, built without Federal subsidy by a local developer. This historic publication documents the construction of four such subdivisions, the cost-saving measures undertaken by each developer, and the resulting savings per-unit. The demonstration sites discussed are: Williamsburg Square, built by Malchus Construction Company, Inc. in Birmingham; Woodpointe, developed by Phil Hamby Construction Company in Knox County; Parkside Village, built by Empire Homes, Inc. in Lincoln; and Ascot Park, constructed by Ronning Enterprises, Inc. in Sioux Falls.
