Alamodome Affordable Parade of Homes

San Antonio, Texas

Sales Price of Unit Entered: $62,500

Median Home Price in the Metropolitan Statistical Area: $95,000

Description: The Alamodome Affordable Parade of Homes is a 21-unit project built with the cooperation of City government (land development), Federal government (downpayment assistance), public and private lending institutions (educational programs to first-time buyers, local and regional utility companies, neighborhood residents and civil rights leaders, the local builders’ association, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, and several nonprofit inner-city revitalization groups.

In approximately 129 days following the demolition of an existing city block of condemned housing, new streets and utilities were created and the first home was completed and sold. The City allowed a building inspector to remain on site so inspections could occur as work was completed.

The first home in the development sold in three hours. The Alamodome Affordable Parade of Homes demonstrates that dilapidated inner-city dwellings can give way to energy-efficient, environmentally sensitive homes with classic styles.
