Rural Housing Resources

A variety of information is available on the Internet concerning the promotion and creation of affordable housing in rural areas of the United States.

USDA Rural Housing Service works with public and nonprofit organizations to offer housing to people in rural areas. The service also works to ensure funding for developers, individuals, and families. The site describes available programs and regulations, and includes important USDA FAQs and external links to rural housing-related sites.

The Housing Assistance Council is a national nonprofit corporation working to help low-income people in rural areas afford housing by providing financing programs, technical assistance, and training to local organizations. It also publishes HAC News, Rural Voices, and various research reports.

The National Rural Housing Coalition advocates affordable housing for low-income rural residents by designing programs to meet their needs and ensuring adequate funding for these programs. The site offers information on NRHC events and publications, and links to additional housing sites.

The Oklahoma Housing Finance Agency provides affordable housing resources to rural areas in Oklahoma. The agency works with homebuyers and private developers to offer low-interest loans and housing tax credits.

The Mississippi Home Corporation develops private and public partnerships to increase awareness of the affordable housing crisis in Mississippi. It has developed a number of single-family and multifamily financing programs and provides technical assistance to homebuyers and community housing development organizations.

The Utah Nonprofit Housing Corporation has specialized in developing affordable housing for more than 30 years. The corporation develops multifamily housing as well as housing for seniors and people with special needs.

Rural LISC, a Local Initiatives Support Coalition program, works to build the capacity of resident-led rural community development corporations (CDCs), increase their production and impact and demonstrate the value of investing in and through rural CDCs. This site provides links to numerous rural sites of interest.

The Rural Community Assistance Program is a nonprofit organization that works to improve the quality of life in rural communities. RCAP is a resource for community leaders and others looking for technical assistance services and training related to rural drinking water supply and wastewater treatment, rural solid waste programs, housing, economic development, and comprehensive community assessment and planning.
