Boston Mayor Announces $30 Million in Housing Improvements.
The Boston Globe (7/13, Fox, 244K) reports $30 million in improvements will soon be made to two low-income housing facilities in Boston. The developments, which house elderly and disabled residents in 475 units, "will receive a variety of interior and exterior improvements to make them more energy-efficient and healthier." Mayor Thomas M. Menino on Tuesday "thanked Boston Public Housing Administrator Bill McGonagle, MassHousing Executive Director Tom Gleason, and representatives from [HUD] who helped make the upgrades possible," stating "I just want to say to all of you, this is our continuing effort to upgrade all public housing in Boston. I can remember many years ago, public housing wasn't ... our priority, but today, because it's our priority, people live in a better quality of housing." Renovations are underway at the two developments, Heritage Apartments in Maverick Square and Lower Mills Apartments in Dorchester, and McGonagle said they are "critically needed."
