HUD Secretary Tours Neighborhood Projects in RI
The AP (11/29) reports that HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan "toured a Providence neighborhood Monday to showcase what he called a successful revitalization effort and to highlight the need for more housing programs." He stated that "state and federal housing dollars have helped reduce crime while increasing occupancy rates in the once troubled area." Donovan is quoted saying about the Olneyville neighborhood that he visited, "This is one of the great stories of a neighborhood and a city that have been turned around." He "also touted President Barack Obama's proposal to put local construction companies to work rehabilitating vacant homes and businesses."
