In June 1996, the second United Nations Conference on Human Settlements -- Habitat II -- will convene in Istanbul, Turkey. Known as the City Summit, this conference will be a unique forum for over 25,000 political and social leaders to explore urban problems and investigate policies to ameliorate these problems. Habitat II will be the last in a series of U.N. conferences held this decade to address the worldwide challenges presented by human development.
The Habitat II Clearinghouse is a network dedicated to disseminating information about Habitat II activities. The Clearinghouse provides file libraries of Habitat materials, discussion forums on urban policy topics, and e-mail capability. The Clearinghouse will serve as a focal point for selected United Nations and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development materials as well as a referral point for other Habitat information.
