Offsite Alcohol Outlets

The Offsite Alcohol Outlets indicator is the number of stores selling alcohol for “offsite” consumption per 10,000 people. An example of an offsite outlet are liquor stores. Data for this measure are from American Community Survey (ACS) 2012 business statistics.

A high number of liquor stores can be an indication of a problem in a neighborhood. Low income areas that have a high proportion of people of color tend to have more liquor stores per capita compared with other areas. A high presence of liquor stores is related to higher assault rates and gonorrhea. Offsite Alcohol Outlets is included in the Neighborhood Characteristics domain.
