Preschool Enrollment

Preschool Enrollment estimates the percentage of children aged three and four who enrolled in any group or class that provides educational experiences before kindergarten. Higher percentages are better than lower percentages. Preschool enrollment was calculated using data from American Community Survey (ACS) 5-year estimates.

Being enrolled in preschool, or early childhood education, has positive health benefits such as stronger cognitive and physical development. It is also related to school and employment outcomes, which contribute to improved physical health. Early childhood education in the first five years of life has positive effects on health and well-being up to three decades later. Mothers who had early childhood education are more likely to have healthier pregnancies and babies. Preschool Enrollment is included in the Educational Opportunities domain.
