Employment Rate

Employment Rate is the percentage of residents aged 16 through 64 currently employed. Employment rate is calculated using data from American Community Survey (ACS) 5-year estimates.

Employment status and health are strongly related. Compared with the unemployed, employed people are more likely to have better physical well-being and self-esteem, and a lower likelihood of death and mental health problems. Re-employment after a long period of unemployment is also related to improved mental health. Employment Rate is in the Employment Opportunities domain.
